Scripture and Sermon Notes

John 16:33 ESV - 33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world."

John 14:1-6 ESV - 1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

John 13:21 ESV - When Jesus had said this, He became troubled in spirit, and testified and said, "Truly, truly, I say to you, that one of you will betray Me."

John 13:33 ESV - "Little children, I am with you a little while longer. You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, now I also say to you, 'Where I am going, you cannot come.'

1. Something to Put Off

John 14:1 ESV - Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled

John 12:27 ESV - "Now My soul has become troubled; and what shall I say, 'Father, save Me from this hour '? But for this purpose I came to this hour

2. Something to Put On

John 14:1 ESV - 1 "Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.

Matthew 6:27, 31-33 ESV - 27 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? ... 31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32 For the unbelievers seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Matthew 14:31 ESV - Immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and took hold of him, and said to him, "You of little faith, why did you doubt?"

3. Something to Always Remember

John 14:2-6 ESV - 2 In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. 4 And you know the way to where I am going." 5 Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?" 6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

What should we remember in fearful times?

  1. Jesus says Remember Your Home - “In My father’s house are many rooms”

  2. Jesus says Remember My Character - “if it were not so, would I have told you?”

  3. Jesus says Remember My Purpose - “that I go to prepare a place for you”

  4. Jesus says Remember My Return - “And if I go and prepare a place you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.”

  5. Jesus says Remember My Plan - 4 And you know the way to where I am going." 5 Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?" 6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Hebrews 2:14-15 NIV - 14 Since the children of God have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death--that is, the devil-- 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.

Ephesians 3:16-21 ESV - 16 that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith--that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. 20 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
