Scripture and Sermon Notes

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 ESV - 1 Now I would remind you, brothers,[a] of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,

1. The Resurrection is a Matter of First Importance

2. The Resurrection is a Matter of God’s Revelation

Galatians 1:12 ESV - 12 For I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ.

Mark 8:31 ESV - 31 And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again.

1 Corinthians 15:3 ESV - that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures.

Isaiah 53:5 ESV - 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.

1 Corinthians 15:4 ESV -that he was buried- we see references to that in Psalm 16:10 for example.

Psalm 16:10 ESV - 10 For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption.

1 Corinthians 15:4 ESV -that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,

Matthew 12:40 ESV - 40 For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Luke 24:25-26 ESV - 25 And he said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?”

3. The Resurrection is a Matter of Personal Salvation

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 ESV - 1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you--unless you believed in vain.

Romans 5:8 ESV - 8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Galatians 3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us

Titus 2:14 ESV - 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.

Luke 24:1-3 ESV - 1 But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. 2 And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.

Luke 24:4-5 ESV - 4 While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. 5 And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead?”

Luke 24:6-7 ESV - 6 He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, 7 that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.

1 Corinthians 15:55, 57 ESV - 55 ”O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” ... 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
