Christ Our Advocate

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.

1 John 2:1-2 ESV

1 John 5:13 - I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

1. Sin Prohibited

1 John 2:1 - My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin.”

1 John 3:4 - Everyone who makes a practice of sinning practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness.

Romans 6:14 - For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.

Romans 6:1 - What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died in sin live in it?

John 14:15 - “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”

John 3:36 - Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son has not seen life, but the wrath of God remains on him.

1 John 2:3-6 - And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.

2. Sin Committed

1 John 2:1 - “But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.”

3. Sin Provided For

Colossians 1:6 - For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him

Hebrews 10:11-13 - And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet.

Revelation 7:9-10 - After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!

Luke 2:1 - In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.

Matthew 11:28-29 - “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

Romans 8:26-27 - Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
