Spiritual Blessings in Christ

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.

Ephesians 2:12 ESV - 12 remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

Colossians 1:21 ESV - 21 And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds,

1. The Scope of Our Blessing (v. 3)

Ephesians 1:3 ESV - Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 

John 1:18 ESV - 18 No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father's side, he has made him known.

Romans 5:5 ESV - 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

2. The Substance of Our Blessing (v. 4-5a)

Ephesians 1:4 ESV - even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him.

Ephesians 1:5a ESV -  he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ,

Ephesians 2:8 ESV - 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,

Romans 5:8 ESV - 8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

1 John 3:1 ESV - See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
