Sermon Notes
7 But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. 8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.
Philippians 3:7-11 ESV
John 17:3 ESV - 3 And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
Knowing Jesus is Knowing…
1. His Worth
Philippians 3:4-6 ESV - 4 If anyone else thinks he has reason for confidence in the flesh, I have more: 5 circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee; 6 as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to righteousness under the law, blameless.
Philippians 3:7 ESV - 7 But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ.
Philippians 3:8 ESV - 8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ
2. His Righteousness

Matthew 5:48 ESV - 48 You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
3. His Power
Philippians 3:10 ESV - 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,
2 Corinthians 12:9 ESV - 9 But the Lord said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
4. His Suffering

Acts 9:15-16 ESV - 15 But the Lord said to him, "Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel. 16 For I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name."
5. His Resurrection
Philippians 3:11 ESV - 11 that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.
Romans 8:18 ESV - 18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
Revelation 5:12 ESV - 12 saying with a loud voice, "Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!"
1 John 3:2 ESV - 2 Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.
Matthew 16:24-26 ESV - 24 Then Jesus told his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. 26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?
2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 ESV - 16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, 17 comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.
