Sermon Notes

17 And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near. 18 For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. 19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. 22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.

Ephesians 2:17-22 ESV

1. At That Time

Ephesians 2:12 ESV - 12 remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

John 14:6 ESV - 6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

2. But Now

Ephesians 2:17 ESV - 17 And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near.

3. So Then

A. We Have a New Citizenship

B. We Have a new Family

Ephesians 4:32 ESV - 32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

C. We are God’s Building

Ephesians 2:20-21 ESV - 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord.

Acts 7:48 ESV - 48 Yet the Most High does not dwell in houses made by hands, as the prophet says,

1 Peter 2:5 ESV - 5 you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

D. We Are God’s Dwelling Place

Ephesians 2:22 ESV - In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.

1 Corinthians 3:16 ESV - 16 Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you?

1 Corinthians 6:19 ESV - 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,

Psalm 118:23-24 ESV - 23 This is the LORD's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes. 24 This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
