14 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. 16 For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham. 17 Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

Hebrews 2:14-18 ESV

1. He Became One Of Us To Destroy The Works Of The Devil

Hebrews 2:14-15 ESV - 14 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.

John 12:31-32 ESV - 31 Now is the judgment of this world; now will the ruler of this world be cast out. 32 And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself."

Hebrews 2:16 ESV - 16 For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham.

2. He Became One Of Us In Order To Become Our Faithful And Merciful High Priest

Hebrews 2:17 ESV - 17 Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.

Hebrews 8:1 ESV - 1 Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven,

Hebrews 7:25 ESV - 25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.

3. He Became One Of Us In Order To Help Us In Our Weakness

Hebrews 2:18 ESV - 18 For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
