Sermon Notes

5 “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

Matthew 5:5 ESV

Luke 14:27 ESV - 27 Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.

1. What is meekness?

2. Who are the meek?

Psalm 37:11 ESV - 11 But the meek shall inherit the land and delight themselves in abundant peace.

John 3:16 ESV - 16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:36 ESV - 36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.

Numbers 12:3 ESV - 3 Now the man Moses was very meek, more than all people who were on the face of the earth.

Philemon 1:8-9 ESV - 8 Accordingly, though I am bold enough in Christ to command you to do what is required, 9 yet for love's sake I prefer to appeal to you--I, Paul, an old man and now a prisoner also for Christ Jesus—

John 5:30 ESV - 30 "I can do nothing on my own. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me.

Matthew 26:39 ESV - 39 And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, "My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will."

Philippians 2:7 ESV - 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.

Matthew 20:28 ESV - 28 even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

3. What do the meek receive?

Matthew 5:5 ESV - 5 "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

Matthew 5:48 ESV - 48 You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

The Lord’s Supper

23 For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.
