2. The Definition of Mourning
2 Corinthians 7:9-10 NASB95 - 9 I now rejoice, not that you were made sorrowful, but that you were made sorrowful to [the point of] repentance; for you were made sorrowful according to [the will of] God, so that you might not suffer loss in anything through us. 10 For the sorrow that is according to [the will of] God produces a repentance without regret, [leading] to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death.
Psalm 32:3-4 ESV - 3 For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. 4 For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer.
3. The Benefit of Mourning
Matthew 5:4 ESV - 4 "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
John 14:16 ESV - 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever,
John 16:7-11 ESV - 7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. 8 And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; 10 concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; 11 concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
